Dr. Gerry Uswak has been appointed to a second, five-year term as dean of the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry.
Uswak joined the college as an associate professor in community dentistry in 2005 after earning a doctor of dental medicine degree in 1989 from the University of Manitoba and completing public health specialty training at the University of North Carolina’s Chapel Hill School of Public Health. From 2002 to 2005, he served as chief executive officer of the Inuvik Regional Health and Social Services Authority.
A strong advocate of increasing the role of dentistry in primary health care and of outreach programming in northern, remote and rural communities, Uswak served two terms as acting dean of the college before being appointed dean on July 1, 2008.
