Jonathan Moore-Wright has been selected to fill the new position of Student Computing Program Manager, in the Information Technology Services Division (ITS), Moore-Wright will manage IT projects to expand and integrate computer access and services for students. He has been Manager of Computer Facilities for the College of Engineering. |
| Linda Suveges, Prof. of Pharmacy and Nutrition, has been elected to the Canadian Pharmacists Association board of directors for a two-year term. She serves on the board as a representative of pharmacists in academia. |

Shawna Berenbaum, Head of the Division of Nutrition and Dietetics in the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, is currently serving as chair of the Professional Standards Advisory Committee of Dietitians of Canada, and as chair of the research awards committee for the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research. |
| Susan Whiting Prof. of Pharmacy and Nutrition took office in June as president of the Canadian Society for Nutritional Science. She has also been appointed to the U.S. Institute of Medicine's standing committee on the uses of dietary reference intakes in nutrition labeling. |
| Karen Jensen, has been named Manager of the Saskatchewan Drug Information Service, in the College of Pharmacy & Nutrition. It includes the Dial Access Drug Information Service for pharmacists, physicians, and other health-care professionals, and the Consumer Drug Information Service for the public. |

Lea Pennock, who has served the University in a number of capacities, most recently as Acting Registrar, has been appointed Program Director, Student Information Systems. In her new position, she will provide strategic leadership in a number of information systems areas, particularly in the Si! Project recently approved by the Board of Governors. |
| Three U of S staff won the 2002 CAUBO (Canadian Association of University Business Officers) regional prize for quality & productivity. The award was presented at the CAUBO annual conference June 16 in Quebec City to, below from left, Julia Taylor (Director, Office of Research Services), Tracey Wray (Administrative Officer for Major Programs, Research Services), and Jim Traves (Financial Analyst, Financial Services). They created a one-stop office - the Major Programs Office - for CFI applications and awards. |

| Karen Lendzyk has been named Operations Manager at University of Saskatchewan Technologies, replacing Teresa Herd who left May 21. For the previous seven months Lendzyk worked as secretary to the director of Research Services, after coming to the U of S last year from a position with KPMG Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors in Saskatoon. |

An exemplary professional record has earned Trever Crowe the title of Young Engineer of the Year from The Canadian Society for Engineering in Agriculture, Food & Biological Systems. A past winner of the College of Engineering teaching award, Crowe's research led to collaborative efforts with other U of S colleges and off-campus organizations. The award also recognizes the considerable time he commits to presentations to high school students, and producer groups. |

Geological Sciences Prof. Brian Pratt has won the Past-President's Medal from the Geological Association of Canada, as a mid-career scientist making continuous and internationally significant contributions to earth science. His career has included ground-breaking research on reef formation, the development of a theory for tropical shallow-water sedimentation and, in paleontology, discovery of the first fossil embryos ever found. |

Two half-time appointments have been announced in the College of Graduate Studies & Research: Lillian Dyck as Acting Associate Dean (Programs); and Trevor Gambell as Associate Dean (Systematic Program Review). Both are for a five-year term. |

| A course that brought computer skills training to members of CUPE local 1975 has earned the union and the U of S a 2002 Training for Excellence Award from the Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board. The course, designed and delivered by Naomi Frankel from the Organization and Employee Development office of Human Resources Division, attracted 300-400 participants. |
| Nowell Seaman, Manager of Insurance Services, will chair the 27th Annual Canadian Risk Management Conference, in Saskatoon Sept. 22-25. Sponsored by the Canadian chapters of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc., the conference will focus on aspects of risk management communications that affect organizations internally and externally. |

| Dan Ish, a Professor in the College of Law since 1975, assumed the position of Acting Dean in the college Aug. 1 for a two-year period. Ish, dean from 1982-88, replaces Beth Bilson who stepped down as Dean July 31. |

Among the newest inductees as Members of the Order of Canada are David Christensen, a professor in dairy cattle nutrition and production who has worked on dairy and agricultural development projects in Saskatchewan, Canada and in 25 other countries around the world, and David Kaplan, former head of the Department of Music and now Professor Emeritus who is being recognized for his work as a teacher, conductor, composer and clarinetist both at the U of S and around Saskatoon. |
| Barbara Daigle, a Calgary-based human resources consultant and former director of organization services in the Human Resources Department at the University of Calgary, has been appointed to the new post of Associate Vice-president of Human Resources at the U of S. She assumes the new job Aug. 19. |
| Dr. John Patience, President & CEO of the Uof S-affiliated Prairie Swince Centre Inc., was recently appointed to the NSERC BioSciences B Strategic Projects Panel for a three-year term. |

Dr. David Schreyer, Assoc. Prof. of Anatomy & Cell Biology and Director of the Cameco MS Neuroscience Research Centre, was awarded a $176,000 grant by the Neuromuscular Research Partnership, an initiative of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Society of Canada and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada. His project is titled 'Regulation of neuronal phenotype by a muscle-derived factor'. |
| Fay Thompson, who has worked extensively in adult education program development, has been named to the new post of Program Coordinator, Spring and Summer Session at Extension Credit Studies. |

Cam McEachern has been named Director of Extension Credit Studies, in Extension Division. He comes to the U of S from Troy State University in Alabama where, as Academics Director, Distance Learning, he administered six online master's programs delivered internationally. |

Dr. Christine Mitchell and Rev. Dr. Don Schweitzer have been appointed to the faculty of St. Andrew's College. Mitchell, with degrees from Wilfrid Laurier University and Carleton University, has been teaching at Carleton in Ottawa and has been appointed Professor of Hebrew Scriptures. Schweitzer, with degrees from U of Toronto, Queen's, St. Andrews, and Princeton, has been doing pastoral ministry work in Prince Albert and has been appointed McDougald Professor of Theology. |

| Dr. Ted Leighton, a Professor of Veterinary Pathology in the U of S's Western College of Veterinary Medicine, was named in July as the first Executive Director of the Canadian Co-operative Wildlife Health Centre (CCWHC). He is a leading expert in wildlife disease. CCWHC, which links research of Canada's four veterinary colleges, works with government, organizations and industry to monitor and respond to the growing number of wildlife diseases - such as West Nile Virus and Chronic Wasting Disease. The Centre is headquartered at WCVM. |

Dr. Roger Pierson, Prof. of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and Director of the Reproductive Biology Research Unit, presented a plenary lecture on 'The Efficacy of the Contraceptive Patch', at the International Symposium on Contraceptive Patch Technology held June 25 during the 58th Annual Clinical Meeting of the Society of Obstetricians & Gynecologists of Canada, in Winnipeg. |
