Faculty & staff encouraged to take part in growing U of S Experts DatabaseU of S Communications recently launched a new version of the University's Experts Database at http://www.usask.ca/mindfields/. The database provides contact information and areas of specialty for U of S faculty, staff and administrative personnel, and is designed to be a valuable resource for news media, researchers, educators and community leaders. It currently houses more than 300 records and showcases the breadth of expertise at the University. This month, Communications staff will undertake the annual database update. They encourage U of S faculty, staff and administrators to participate by visiting the website listed above and clicking the 'Submit a Record' link. This online form is also accessible via the Faculty & Staff link on the U of S home page. The form includes an option to participate in the Speakers Bureau, a service whereby Communications matches community groups with U of S representatives interested in speaking at local engagements. The database uses software developed by Earl Fogel, Information Technology Services, and features multiple searching and browsing options. A new Search by Topic function categorizes campus experts according to 200 subject areas, ranging from 'Aboriginal' to 'X-rays'. Communications receives monthly web usage statistical reports and tracks which records and search topics are most popular. The site currently receives more than 10,000 hits per month. The online database, launched in 1997, was a U of S 90th anniversary initiative. Communications has maintained an offline version since 1991. For more information about the database call -6202 or e-mail: szwydky@duke.usask.ca.
