    Rick Holm, director of the Crop Development Centre, has been made an Honourary Life Member of the Saskatchewan Seed Growers Association. The award, which was announced at the association's recent annual meeting in Saskatoon, recognizes significant contributions to crops production and the Saskatchewan seed industry.

    Sheila Carr-Stewart, assistant professor in the Department of Educational Administration, and Jennifer Nicol, assistant professor in the educational psychology and special education, have been selected to receive the 2002-03 Kirkpatrick Travel Award. The award, jointly administered by the U of S College of Education, the U of S Alumni Association and the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation, will allow Carr-Stewart to continue her study of the Mi'Kmaq Education Act in Nova Scotia. Nicol will use the funds to travel to Regina to meet accredited music therapists in support of her work on music as a therapeutic medium.

    One of the latest inductees into the Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame is Chris Bigland, Professor Emeritus in Veterinary Microbiology. After heading the Western College of Veterinary Medicine microbiology department from 1962-1975, Bigland went on to become the first director of the Veterinary Infectious Diseases Organization.
    The Clark-Neuman-Clayton Award, presented by the Canadian Seed Growers Association, has been presented to Al Slinkard, Professor Emeritus in the Crop Development Centre. The award was made in recognition of his excellence as a pulse crop breeder and research, his training of graduate students and his leadership in the development of the pulse crop industry in western Canada.

    Wendy Schissel from the Department of Women's and Gender Studies has been named as the third recipient of the Sylvia Wallace Sessional Teaching Excellence Award. Named for the late associate vice-president of the U of S, the award recognizes teaching competence including superior command of the subject area, skills in developing class materials and the capacity to motivate and inspire students.
    U of S Director of Institutional Analysis Robert Schultz has been awarded a fellowship from the Association of Institutional Research (AIR) to attend the organization's Summer Dada Policy Institute. Schultz will be the only Canadian attending and will spend June 10-26 in Washington, D.C. During the intensive 10-day course he will review the comprehensive U.S. higher education dataset and see how aspects of it may be adapted for use at the U of S. Schultz is currently president of the Canadian Institutional Research and Planning Association.
