CUPE offers scholarships

An essay about the role of the labour movement in Canada could be worth $1,000 to each of four CUPE 1975 members, or spouses or children of members, who have plans to attend a post-secondary institution full time.

The University support staff union will award the Norm Quan Bursaries this spring after judging essays submitted by members in good standing. Deadline is June 30.

Also being awarded this spring are bursaries of up to $1,000 from the Glen Makahonuk Memorial CUPE 1975 Training and Development Fund.

Set up in recognition of Makahonuk’s contributions to the labour movement through CUPE 1975, the funds will assist the union’s members with tuition in eligible classes like commerce and law. Application deadline is Aug. 16.

Information about both programs is available at the union office, 21 McLean Hall.
