U of Regina opens large residenceThe University of Regina’s new 693-bed residence complex was officially opened Sept. 14. The two 12-storey buildings, constructed at a cost of $38 million, will enable the University to house about 10 per cent of its students. U of R President David Barnard is quoted in news reports as saying that number “brings us in line with other Canadian universities. By making the on-campus living experience more accessible, it will make the University of Regina more attractive to students from Saskatchewan, from elsewhere in Canada, and internationally.” Financed with a 25-year mortgage that will be paid off using rental revenue, the buildings offer various living arrangements including 166 apartments with cooking facilities and 132 dormitory rooms. Also included in the complex are administrative areas, student common and study areas, meeting and conference rooms and other support services.
