Colleen Fitzgerald, former
President of St. Peter’s College in Meunster, has accepted
the position of director of the Division of Media and Technology.
She assumes the position March 1.

In Corporate Administration, James Cook joined the staff
as manager of business opportunities Dec. 1. He comes to the position from
the post of marketing unit manager with Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food.
Also, Deborah Fuhrman, a commerce graduate, has taken on a term position
as operations officer.

Andrei Smolyakov, professor
of Physics and Engineering Physics, has been elected to the position
of Fellow of the American Physical Society, recognition for pioneering
contributions to plasma physics theory. The honour was presented
at the November meeting of the organization’s Division of Plasma
Physics in Savannah, GA.

U of S electrical engineering grad Jen Neilands has moved
from Student and Enrolment Services to the position of administrative assistant/project
coordinator in the office of the Associate Vice President, Information
and Communications Technology for a one year term.
Bernie Juurlink, head of the Department
of Anatomy and Cell Biology, has been appointed acting associate dean,
School of Basic Sciences in the College of Medicine for a one year term
starting Jan. 1.

Advancement in the College of Engineering, has moved to the position of
Financial Assistance and Awards Officer (Development) in Student and Enrolment

joined the Western College of Veterinary Medicine as development officer.

Associate professor of music Kathleen Solose has released a CD of Chopin music including the rarely played Sonata no.
1 in C minor, the Sonata no. 2 in B flat minor and the Polonaise-Fantaisie. “Kathleen
Solose Plays Chopin” is available at McNally Robinson Booksellers,
Presto Musique, the U of S Bookstore and the Department of Music.
Eli Bornstein, professor emeritus
of art and art history, has just published the double issue No. 43/44 of
The Structurist, a multidisciplinary, international art journal which he
has edited since its inception in 1960. It has a global reputation and
goes out biennially to individuals, libraries and institutions in more
than 30 countries. The latest edition, on the theme “Toward an Ecological
Ethos in Art and Architecture”, is dedicated to long-time U of S
Crop Science professor and ecologist Stan Rowe, who died last April.
