    A paper entitled “A Dialogue Between Dialogues: Erasmus’s ‘De recta pronuntiatione’ and ‘Ciceronianus’” earned English professor Judith Rice Henderson the Montaigne Prize, awarded by the Canadian Society for Renaissance Studies. The prize recognizes the best paper presented by a non-student member at the society’s annual meeting.
    Psychology professor Jim Waldram has been named a Champion of Mental Health by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) for his research towards an understanding of Aboriginal mental health issues. The award was presented in Ottawa in early October. Waldram’s research has had a major impact on how the historical mistunderstanding of Aboriginal cultures has had a negative impact on mental health.

    Maria Campbell, assistant professor of English, Dr. James Dosman, director of the Institute of Agricultural Rural and Environmental Health, Bryan Harvey, professor emeritus of Crop Science, and Dr. Annu Thakur, clinical professor in the department of psychiatry, were all named Oct. 11 to the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the province’s highest honour.

    On Nov. 4, the first Ruth Murray Award for Outstanding Support of the University of Saskatchewan Library will be made posthumously to Dr. Lorne Massey, former head of the Pathology Department. The award will be made at the second annual Library Fundraising Gala.
    Dr. Kyathanahalli Janardhan, a PhD student in the Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences under supervisor Dr. Baljit Singh, won first prize in the poster competition, for his poster on Expression of Toll-like receptor 4 in acute lung inflammation, and second prize in oral presentation at the annual meeting of the American Association of Veterinary Anatomists held recently in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

    The newly formed Canadian Academy of Health Sciences has admitted four U of S faculty members as Fellows, a rank that recognizes national and international contributions to the promotion of health science. Inducted Sept. 21 at the academy’s inaugural meeting were: Dr. William Albritton, dean of the College of Medicine; Dr. James Dosman, director of the Institute of Agricultural Rural and Environmental Health; Dr. Jawahar Kalra, professor of Pathology; and Roger Pierson, professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.
