PowerPoint good or bad; it's up to user

To the editor:

Re: “PowerPoint slammed as poor teaching tool” [OCN – Jan. 7, 2005], Professor Jeremy Lee has a good point – except that there are as many bad users of acetates, white boards, chalk boards – and poor lecturers – as there are bad users of PowerPoint. It isn’t the technology, it’s the people who use it!

May I suggest that teaching and communication are about clarity and the ability to convey facts, ideas, meaning and especially enthusiasm in a manner appropriate to the user. Regards,

Peter Williams
