CAMPUS INCIDENTS – SEPTEMBER 6-18

These are a selection of incidents reported by the Campus Safety Department:

September 6-11

  • Officers attended Agriculture for a complaint of smoke. A plastic container had melted in an oven. Fume hoods were turned on and Dept. of Health, Safety & Environment was notified.
  • Two males were arrested for damaging a vehicle at Stadium Parkade by smashing a window. Suspects were noticed by an officer doing surveillance. Suspects were turned over to city police.
  • Very busy on night of Fri., Sept. 9. A brief overview: Three 24-hour suspensions; six alcohol-related tickets issued; one prohibited driver charge; two intoxicated people, parents contacted to pick them up; one disturbance (a bit of a fight in front of Place Riel); three mischief charge (gate arm in Lot-1 damaged, tent taken down in the Bowl, a car window smashed with a rock in Voyageur Crescent); two inspection tickets written; and one medical call for an intoxicated person who was passed out.

September 12-18

  • Officers operated an ATAP roadside checkstop on the night of Sept. 12 in relation to the Commerce BBQ. Students are bused off-campus and back to campus after the event where they pick up their vehicles.. Officers handed out nine 24-hour suspensions to drivers who had been drinking. This program is a good educational tool and hopefully students will realize we are doing checkstops after events and we can curb this very dangerous behavior.
  • An unknown person caused damage in the construction area near Pl Riel by pushing over boundary fences and damaging a metal trailer.
  • A locker was broken into in the female change-room in the PAC. Numerous items were stolen.
  • The daycare centre shed at Williams Building was broken into by culprit(s) cutting the lock hasp. Nothing was stolen.
  • There was a fight near Lot-A. A male took a cab that two other males thought they should get. A fight ensued with one person attending RUH for attention to a cut above his eye.
  • An IPOD valued at $300 was stolen in the Geology Building.
  • Two males were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia - a hash pipe. The pipe was confiscated.
  • A female left her laptop in the washroom at Pl. Riel. When she returned, it was gone.
  • A car was placed in the Arts building over the weekend.
