Tired of looking at that pile of parking tickets every time you open your glove box? Why not deal with some of them and get into the Christmas spirit at the same time.
Parking Services is running a special program in early December to help people clear up their ticket backlog by turning those tickets into a little seasonal joy. Called Trade Tickets for Toys, the program will allow unpaid U of S parking tickets to be forgiven in exchange for toys and non-perishable food items.
Wendy Novakovski, parking supervisor, said the University has teamed up with the local Rawlco radio stations and the Salvation Army in an effort to improve the Christmas season for some of Saskatoon’s less privileged families this year. “It’s a chance to rely a little bit on people’s good will, so we hope they give generously.”
Here’s how the program works. Between 8 a.m. Dec. 4 and 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8, people can take up to three University parking tickets that are more than 14 days old to the Parking Services office in the University Services Building. There, they can donate one toy and one food item for each of the three tickets, which will then be forgiven.
Novakovski stressed the program applies only to tickets for parking infractions, not for moving violations.
“It’s a good way to get rid of some of our oldie goldie tickets,” she said, “and for people to get into the spirit of the season by helping local kids and families.”
