Technology Week designated

A number of events around campus that all share a technology theme will highlight the University’s first ever Technology Week Oct. 30 to Nov. 3.

“Technology Week was established in recognition of the fact that two major technology-focused events will be occurring in the same week,” said Rick Bunt, Associate Vice-President of Information and Communications Technology. “This is a good opportunity to bring other activities into the same time frame.”

Bunt said the goal of Technology Week is to provide as many different activities and events as possible to meet the various needs of people on campus. That might include investigating the latest gadgets, examining security and privacy issues, getting a laptop security tune-up, or discussing the impact technology has on teaching and intellectual property rights, he said.

“As the University becomes more reliant on technology for business processes, it affects more and more people. Technology Week is an opportunity to call the community’s attention to things that technology is doing for us, and the opportunities that are available. It is a showcase of possibilities.”

The cornerstone events for Technology Week are the Second Annual U of S Technology Forum Oct. 31 (http://www.usask.ca/technologyforum/ ) and the 28th National Teaching, Learning, and Technology Conference on Nov. 2-3 (http://www.usask.ca/tltconference/nov06/ ).

Other special technology-related events and promotions will be held throughout the week at locations across campus.

Bunt expects Technology Week will occur annually like other campus events including International Week and Aboriginal Awareness Week.
