Technology, sports get ‘A’s from students

Technology, athletics and campus beauty were among the top-rated aspects of the University of Saskatchewan in a recent student survey released by The Globe and Mail.

In its annual University Report Card issue, released Oct. 16, more than 43,000 students from 53 universities nationwide were surveyed on various subjects, ranging from class sizes and technology to school spirit and career placement. At the U of S, 2,302 students participated in the poll that was conducted by The Strategic Counsel.

The results of the 78 questions published showed students gave the U of S the grade of ‘A’ in 12 specific areas:

  • Attractiveness of your campus, A
  • On-campus network for Internet/email, A
  • Faculty members’ knowledge of subjects, A
  • Availability of online course registration, A-
  • Recreational & athletic programs and services, A-
  • Availability of up-to-date computer equipment on campus, A-
  • Computer accessibility on campus, A-
  • Access to course/teaching materials online, A-
  • Sense of personal safety/security, A-
  • Online library resources, A-
  • Overall quality and availability of technology on campus, A-
  • Overall university atmosphere, A-

Some categories receiving a ‘B’ included quality of teaching, quality of education received, and quality of buildings and facilities. Students gave the University a ‘C’ in areas like student residences, academic support and the availability of needs-based scholarships and bursaries.

There were no ‘F’ grades handed out to the U of S, and the only ‘D’ was for the availability of organic foods on campus.
