A team of scientists from the U of S and Alberta have been awarded a $2.25 million grant to study the healing and regrowth of nerves damaged by injury or disease.
The research, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), aims to develop an implantable microchip that will send electrical signals designed to encourage nerve fibres to grow and connect to one another. According to a news release, U of S neuroscientist Valerie Verge hopes this research will help people with both nerve injuries and degenerative diseases.
