Three books by U of S faculty captured a total of six nominations for this year’s Saskatchewan Book Awards.
Who Killed Jackie Bates? Murder and Mercy during the Great Depression by Bill Waiser, professor in the Department of History, was nominated in three categories – book of the year, non-fiction and best Saskatoon book. The Trouble with Lions: A Glasgow Vet in Africa by Jerry Haigh of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine was also nominated for best Saskatoon book and in the non-fiction category. James Youngblood Henderson’s Treaty Rights in the Constitution of Canada was shortlisted in the scholarly writing category. Henderson is research director at the Native Law Centre and an associate member of the College of Law.
The winners will be announced at the Saskatchewan Book Awards gala in Regina Nov. 29.
