New look, features for PAWS
Changes aim to improve user experience

Whether you are checking email or enroling for classes, PAWS is a web service for every employee and student on campus—and with the new customizing function, users can make their PAWS a lot more personal.

Web designer Colin Skrapek explained that although it was possible to customize PAWS in the past, some recent changes to the system made by the PAWS team—staff from Student and Enrolment Services Division (SESD) and Information Technology Services (ITS)—will allow users to drag and drop their windows, tabs and personal options, and streamline their preferences. Basically, users can make their PAWS work for them.

“Customizing used to be so onerous,” said Skrapek of SESD. “The drag function will be much easier.”

Skrapek demonstrates how easy it is to add new channels with a quick click. U of S channels, like the Student Update or information channels like the Wikipedia article of the day, can be added or removed any time. Channels can then be moved around using a drag and drop type interface. The process is smooth and straightforward.

The new PAWS will also have a slightly different look and feel. Users can try out the new customized PAWS when they log in for the next month or so, Skrapek said, and feedback is encouraged so the team can continue to improve the system.

To log into the new PAWS, watch for the message on the login page that says: “We’re working on a new look and feel. Try the new PAWS and send us your feedback!”
