The university is now a member of a unique online network that connects people looking to share the daily commute.
The Transcanada Carpool website, www.carpool.ca, brings together people looking for rides with others in their own area or community, usually within minutes of registering.
"I think this will assist people much easier and quicker…" says Judy Wall of Parking Services. "Carpools have always been going on, but it was less organized."
Not only does carpooling cut down on emissions and gridlock, it's good for your health and your wallet. According to the Canadian Automobile Association, the average cost of operating a vehicle is nearly $25 per day. And studies show those who carpool experience lower levels of stress, higher morale and lower blood pressure.
Wall thinks this will be great for people traveling to campus who might not know someone to carpool with, especially since people tend to move every year at university.
