Northern scholarship

Five graduate students from the U of S whose areas of study are centered in the north were among this year's recipients of Canadian Northern Studies Trust awards from the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies. They are, from left to right: Alexis Schafer, toxicology PhD candidate who received a $40,000 Garfield Weston Award for Northern Research; Carissa Brown, PhD candidate in biology who received a $5,000 scholarship; Brian Laird, PhD candidate in toxicology, winner of a $40,000 Garfield Weston Award for Northern Research; geography masters candidate May Guan who received a $15,000 Garfield Weston Award; and Kristina Duffee, a masters candidate in native studies, recipient of a $10,000 Northern Resident Scholarship.
