Sharing stories about learning

Anyone on campus who studies, teaches or simply works for the university is invited to share their best stories about learning.

Loving to Learn Day, which falls on Feb. 13, originally established at the University of Waterloo in 2006, gives everyone a chance to raise the profile of learning, said Kathy Schwarz, program director with the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching Effectiveness (GMCTE). The centre is co-ordinating the event this year throughout the city.

Schwarz said this is the second year the U of S has been involved. Participants are encouraged to write a paragraph which, according to promotional material, "might relate to a class you've taken, a book you've read, a kernel of wisdom you've acquired, a hard-won insight [or] something you noticed or realized as you were walking down the street—anything is valid, as long as you loved to learn it."

The GMCTE has been working with local libraries and schools to promote Loving to Learn Day. "It's a great opportunity to celebrate learning—formal or informal," said Schwarz, adding there are categories for the U of S, the community at large and two for school students.
