The fight against Alzheimer's
January 23, 2009
During January, Alzheimer Awareness Month, the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan would like to acknowledge and thank the employees of the University of Saskatchewan for their long-time support of our organization. The Society receives support from the University in a number of ways: donations through the U of S Employees Charitable Giving Program; the hosting of Coffee Break™ in several departments; and U of S faculty and staff participating in our Forget-Me-Not Walk held in the Saskatoon Field House in January. Many of our current and past board members have also been members of the U of S faculty and staff.
Your support to our organization is more important than ever.
The number of Canadians living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia will more than double within a generation. This new data only reinforces the fact that Alzheimer's disease and related dementias are a rising concern in this country, an epidemic that has the potential to overwhelm the Canadian health care system if changes are not made today.
The University Of Saskatchewan is at the forefront of the fight against dementia. Researchers like Dr. Debra Morgan, Dr. Darrell Mousseau, Dr. Margaret Crossley, Dr. Andrew Kirk and Dr. Peter Yu, to name a few, are doing ground breaking research to find the causes of and potential treatments for the disease, and to find better ways to diagnose and care for people who are dealing with the disease today.
Those of us who call Saskatchewan home know how remarkable our province is.
The Alzheimer Society Of Saskatchewan would like to thank everyone at the University of Saskatchewan who has played a part in strengthening the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
