Ian MacPhedran has taken a position in research computing support in Information and Technology Services. Formerly an engineering applications analyst in the engineering computer centre, MacPhedran returns to the U of S after PhD studies in structural engineering at the University of Alberta. |

Father George T. Smith has been appointed to a third term of office as president of St. Thomas More College. Smith, who received his doctorate from the University of Toronto in 1994, joined STM in 2000 after serving as the general councilor responsible for higher education and finances for the Basilian Fathers. | ![]() Smith |

In June, two Ontario universities awarded honourary degrees to Roy Romanow, former premier of Saskatchewan and senior policy fellow at the U of S, recognition of his contributions to both Saskatchewan and Canada. The degrees came from the University of Western Ontario and York University. |

Cheryl Avery, archivist with University Archives, was honoured recently by the Association of Canadian Archivists with its annual Membership Recognition Award. The award acknowledges significant contributions to the ACA and to the development of the archival profession. | ![]() Avery |

Three students in the Dept. of Pharmacology were award recipients for presentations given this spring. Arti Dhar took first place in a poster presentation at the meeting of the Canadian Society of Pharmacology & Therapeutics while second place went to Tuanjie Chang. Adrian Doroszko was awarded first place for his presentation in the cardiovascular/respiratory sciences category at the 16th annual Life and Health Sciences Research Conference. |

Roma Franko, former head of the Dept. of Slavic Studies and the Dept. of Modern Languages, and the late Sonia Morris, formerly with the College of Education, have been named as the inaugural co-recipients of the George S.N. Luckyj Ukrainian Translation Prize by the Canadian Foundation for Ukrainian Studies. |
