Taras appointed ESB dean

Daphne Taras, the associate dean research and director of the PhD and MBA thesis programs at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, has been named dean of the University of Saskatchewan’s Edwards School of Business.

Taras graduated from York University with a BA in political science in 1978. She did graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies that same year, and went on to earn an MA in political science from Duke University in 1981. Taras was awarded an MBA in new ventures and marketing by the University of Calgary in 1986, a PhD in management from the U of C in 1994, and a law degree in labour and employment law from Osgoode Hall in 2008. She also holds a first class brokers certificate.

Her five-year term as dean at the U of S begins July 1.

Among the positions Taras has held at the U of C are instructor in the communications program, professor in the Faculty of Management and professor in the Institute for Advanced Policy Research. Taras has also served as adjunct and visiting professor at the University of Toronto’s Industrial Relations Centre and as visiting scholar and lecturer at the America Institute, University of Amsterdam. She was an expert advisor to the Federal Labour Standards Commission from 2004-2006.

Taras’ position in the Haskayne School includes responsibility for research profile, tenure, promotion and grants for 85 faculty members as well as oversight of 40 PhD and five MBA thesis students.
