Making our CASE
February 11, 2011
On Campus News has taken top honours in a competition among internal publications at post-secondary institutions.
The U of S newspaper took gold in the internal tabloids and newsletters category of the 2011 Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VIII communications awards. The district encompasses all of western Canada, Alaska and the northwestern United States.
The judging criteria in the publications category include: appropriateness to audience; ability to meet stated objectives; quality of writing, editing, design and photography; print quality; and originality.
Editor Colleen MacPherson oversees production of the 20 issues of OCN each year. Mark Ferguson, OCN writer, contributes stories and many outstanding photos. Additional contributors include communications staff members Kris Foster and Teri Rosenfelt, and other campus and freelance writers and photographers. Designer Brian Kachur handles the job of pulling it all together into a great looking newspaper. Thanks also go to those who take the time to pick up the phone or send an email to share story ideas.
Thrive, a publication of the Edwards School of Business, was also a winner this year, taking the CASE bronze award in the category for publications for multiple audiences. Published once a year, the magazine targets current and prospective students as well as alumni.
