CNE marks milestone in educating nurses

For 40 years, the Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) program in the College of Nursing has been offering workshops, seminars and conferences on the latest developments for nurse practitioners in Saskatchewan.

CNE was conceived in 1971 by the U of S and the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association in response to the need for continuing education for Saskatchewan’s nurses. Since then, CNE has been committed to lifelong learning and knowledge sharing by developing and offering learning opportunities that support professional practice, maintain competencies and enhance quality of care.

“This year marks an important milestone as we celebrate our accomplishments over 40 years,” said Patricia Wall, director of CNE and associate professor in the College of Nursing. “But most importantly, we will be continuing to build our programs and our reach across the province to engage Saskatchewan nurses and other health professionals in the exciting adventure of adult education over a lifetime of learning. In particular, we look forward to increasing our attention to the needs of an aging population, Aboriginal communities and rural health care.”

CNE launched its anniversary with a wine and cheese reception in January. The celebration will continue into June 2011 when CNE hosts a 40th anniversary conference called Innovation and Leadership for Education and Practice.
