March 14: Around the Bowl
- Dr. Ted Howes, assistant dean of Pharmacy and Nutrition, is
back from a week visit to the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he
participated with Faculty of Medicine members in a research project called
"Mechanism of Metabolism-induced Hepatotoxicity of the Pyrrolizidine,
Clivorine," funded by the Hong Kong Reseach Grants Council. He also gave
a lecture to the Hong Kong Pharmacological Society.
- Professor George Khachatourians, of Applied Microbiology and
Food Science, is the 1997 president of the Entomological Society of
Saskatchewan (ESS), which will be hosting the AGM of the Entomological
Society of Canada in 1999, in Saskatoon. The ESS comprises 80 members
from academe, government, and industry sectors.
- Dr. John Porter, of the Department of Classics, is organizing
an international conference to be called "Crossing the Stages: the
Production, Performance, and Reception of Ancient Drama," which will be
held in Saskatoon from October 23 to 26. The conference, which has been
awarded a SSHERC grant, is sponsored by both the Departments of Classics
and Drama and by the Humanities Research Unit.
