The initial focus will be on Commitment to Leadership Development and Commitment to Addressing Employee Group Priority Needs. Leadership development programs will contribute to the revitalization of Saskatchewan Universities by assisting managers, administrators, department chairs, and supervisors in becoming more effective in these challenging times, while the programs designed for specific employee groups will focus on complementing existing University learning programs.
Watch for more information about these upcoming initiatives:
- A pilot program for CUPE 1975 employes, entitled Essential Leadership and Communication Skills. This program is being developed in consultation with CUPE 1975 personnel and supervisors at both Universities and will cover topics relevant to leadership, working together and communicating effectively.
- The Collaborative Leadership Retreat program is being designed for leaders from Saskatchewan Universities who want to strengthen their skills in collaborate leadership.
- A Leadership/Managers Series will be made available to managers, senior administrators, department heads and supervisors who want to learn more about 'Bringing Out the Best in Others' and 'Planning Effectively.' Additionally, a program aimed at exploring leadership challenges unique to women leaders in an academic setting will be offered.
- Finally, a University of Saskatchewan Learning Directory Website will be developed which will include up-to-date information regarding learning opportunities made available through a broad range of U of S service providers.
- Starting in 1998, interest paid on student loans will be eligible for a tax credit of 17%.
- Starting in 1998, the education credit will be extended to part-time students, who will also be eligible to deduct child care expenses.
