USSU names recipients of its teaching awards

The University of Saskatchewan Students' Union Teaching Excellence Awards winners for 1997-98 have been announced. This year's recipients are:

The Teaching Excellence Awards were established in 1992 to recognize both exceptional teaching skills and a consistent effort to ensure that students receive an education of the highest quality.

Dief Canada Centre opens Holocaust photo exhibit

The Diefenbaker Canada Centre has mounted a photography exhibit - mainly family snapshots - showing children caught up in the Holocaust.

Throughout April and May, "How Their Hearts Must Have Trembled: Children and the Holocaust" presents a selection of photographs of some of the many thousands of the Nazi's youngest victims.

Organized by the Holocaust Resource Centre of Queensborough Community College, City University of New York, the exhibit categorizes the photographs into themes - Life under Nazi Rule, The Ghettos, Partings, The Camps, 'Escape' Through Fantasy and Games, Hiding and Resistance, and Liberation.

The DCC is wheelchair accessible and has metered parking (free on weekends). Its hours:

Professors of the Year awards

This year, CASE and CCAE will honor two professors for teaching excellence. In addition to the University Professor of the Year will be a new category: College Professor of the Year. The awards, which carry a $5,000 prize for each named professor, will be presented at a fall ceremony in Ottawa.

A brochure on the awards is available through the Communications Office - phone 6607. Nomination packages will be mailed in April, with a June 9 deadline for receipt of nominations. The entry fee is $70.

Saskatoon writers to read at RUH

Members of the Saskatoon Writers Group will be reading excerpts from their work at the Royal University Hospital, on Wednesday, April 22, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., in the Fifth Floor Atrium coffee shop.

All patients, volunteers, and visitors are cordially invited to attend. The program will allow the writers to chat with the audience and answer any questions from them.
