Campus symposium boosts research
More than 230 faculty from across campus are registered to attend "Building Research Success at U of S", a Jan. 21 - 22 event aimed at sharing research success stories and ideas for boosting research activity at the University.
"This is the first all-faculty U of S research symposium in at least a decade," says symposium co-chair Murray Fulton. "It will highlight the very fine research that is happening at U of S and help build an even stronger research culture on campus." Fulton noted the University is committed to establishing itself as one of Canadas leading research universities in the next decade. The symposium will feature plenary talks from four invited speakers from Canada and the U.S., workshops on seven pressing issues for the research community, poster sessions, and a closing session led by Pres. Peter MacKinnon entitled "Next Steps: Where Do We Go from Here?" The conference is organized by a sub-committee of the Research Committee of Council in conjunction with the Office of the Vice-President Research. It is sponsored primarily by the Presidents Office. Other funds have come from college deans, the Office of the Vice-President Research, and campus research groups including the Centre for the Study of Co-operatives, Humanities Research Unit, CSALE (Centre for Studies in Agriculture, Law and the Environment), Prairie Ecosystem Study, Saskatchewan Centre for Soil Research, Saskatchewan Drug Research Institute, and Womens Studies Research Unit. A summary of the conference proceedings will be published. For information, call Kathryn Warden at 966-2506.
