Extension
- ABORIGINAL CULTURE/SCIENCE WORKSHOPS
Learn about the history and oral stories of Aboriginal environmental
knowledge, specifically of the North-central
Saskatchewan Cree. Useful for an ethnobotanical resource
kit for classrooms and for contributing to a more positive attidude
towards Aboriginal peoples.
The first of a two part series begins March 6. FMI, call

- BEADWORK
Join Bernelda Wheeler weekly and learn how to do beautiful
beadwork with one of
the experts. You will end up with a finished product. Wednesdays,
February 3 to March
24, from 1 - 3 p.m. FMI, or to register, phone

- COMMUNITY ART PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN (2)
- Dramatically Different Art Program for
Kids, combining visual art activities with drama activities. 12
weeks, Tuesdays, 9 - 12
year olds, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., starts February 2. Saturdays, 5 - 8 year
olds, 10 -11:30
a.m., starts February 6. Classes are held in Kirk Hall.

- Music, Movement and Art Camps for ages 5
- 9 The theme is Travel Around the World. Children will learn about the
music and art
from Africa, Israel, Canada, Northern Canada, and Ireland. Classes are
held in Kirk Hall.
Camp one: February 22 - 26 (Spring Break). Camp two: April 5 - 9 (Easter

- COMPUTER CLASSES
The Extension Division is pleased to offer the following computer
classes:
- World Wide Web Site Design Level II
Prerequisite: Create Your Own Homepage course, or a basic understanding
of web
page design. This course continues where the Create Your Own Homepage
introductory course left off. Topics include the preparation of graphics
for web pages, designing and managing web sites, formatting using style
sheets, generating html using other software. For a detailed course

- Introduction to Microsoft Word for Windows
Some experience with Windows 95 an asset. Two evenings: February 2 and

You'll learn basic worksheet skills and how to work with data in
worksheets.

When you surf the net, do you get lost in the waves? Discover what's
available and get tips and tricks for tracking it down using
Netscape Navigator, the net's most popular browser.

- Introduction to PowerPoint (New!)
Learn to create, modify, and deliver multimedia presentations with
PowerPoint 97. Use
the features of PowerPoint 97 to add text,
graphics, sound, and visual effects to your presentations.
Quickly create speaker's notes and print handouts for your audience.

- CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR ENGINEERS (3)
- Effective Professional Communication: Strategies
For Success
This satellite workshop will be presented live
in a Division of Audio Visual Services studio and broadcast via satellite
to six selected
receiver sites in Saskatchewan. The sites can
interact with the presenter via telephone or facsimile.
This workshop is focused on the needs of engineers and geoscientists to
help
improve writing and speaking skills to any audience,
in any context.

- Fundamentals of Environmental Auditing
This workshop will provide a basic grounding in audit techniques
suitable for in house
auditors, independent consultants, and audit
program managers. The learning experience will
include a combination of lectures, individual and

the auditing process, and techniques.

A hands-on, interactive exploration of the creative process,
characterization, "showing,
not telling" in plot and dialogue, point of
view, revising efficiently, the business of publishing.

- Freelance Writing for Magazines
Learn about every aspect of freelance journalism, from finding an idea
to getting
paid for the finished piece, including knowing
your audience, generating ideas, researching
stories, conducting interviews, writing exciting
leads and endings, selling your product, copyright law. Guest speakers
will discuss the
writer's craft.

- Ancient America: Putting the Picture Together
This course will explore the archaeology and artistic traditions of the
pre-contact
Native American cultures of North and Central America. Areas of
discussion will
include: physiographic regions of North America; peopling of the New World
and the
cultural areas of North America; the cultural
traditions of the Arctic, Sub-Arctic, northwest
coast, plateau, and California; buffalo hunters of
the plains; desert farmers of the southwest; mound builders of the
southeast; eastern
woodlands, the Iroquois; the Mayan civilization of

The Hawaii Through Indigenous Eyes tour (February 19 - 28, 1999), will

an opportunity to meet Hawaiian indigenous educators and community leaders

a personalized, cross-cultural view of sacred
sites and educational institutions. Sponsored by
the Indigenous Peoples Program, Extension Division, in partnership with
the Centre
for Hawaiian Studies, University of Hawaii. All
