AROUND THE BOWL

  • Dr. Elizabeth Brewster, was inducted with an Honorary Fellowship at the annual convocation ceremony of the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad, April 28, in recognition of her contribution to the arts. Brewster, originally from New Brunswick, has a PhD from Indiana University and taught in the U of S Dept. of English from 1972-90. She is now a professor emeritus. She has published many books of poems, novels, short stories, and a two-volume autobiography.


  • Allan Grundahl, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree at the College of Emmanual and St. Chad annual convocation April 28, for his commitment to Christian witness, ecumenical work and church leadership. Grundahl, a Saskatoon resident, is a Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. Originally from Kansas, he served as a Lutheran pastor in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Macoun, and in Minnesota and South Dakota.


  • Dr. Nazeem Muhajarine, U of S Prof. of Community Health and Epidemiology, has agreed to serve on the Population Health Committee of the Medical Research Council of Canada. The committee assesses applications for grants for research in the population health and community health fields. Dr. Muhajarine is a national health research scholar and is associated with the new Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit.


  • Henderson
    Sakej Henderson, Marjorie Benson and Isobel Findlayhave authored a new book, Aboriginal Tenure in the Constitution of Canada, published by Carswell in March. The 510-page book examines reconciling the English and Aboriginal land-tenure systems in Canada. Hendersion is research director of the U of S Native Law Centre. Benson is Assoc. Professor of Law at the U of S. Findlay is a sessional lecturer in the U of S Dept. of English.
