Engineers go on annual Hell-week rampage

Great numbers of the U of S’s 1,200 engineering students went on their boisterous annual round of "Hell-week" activities Sept. 20-24, parading around campus in red paint, either in mob walks or jammed into their red Engineering truck.

Above, on Sept. 20 University Pres. Peter MacKinnon, centre, was surprised when a gang of more than 50 stomping, chanting engineering students marched into his office in the Administration Building to present him with the first official copy of this year’s Red Eye, the Engineering Student’s Society’s irreverent tabloid newspaper. MacKinnon greeted the students and joined them in some songs.

Below, as the Engineering students guard their victim – second-year Agriculture student Wade Annand, who they taped to their giant red "E" during the Sept. 24 "E-plant" fracas – the Agros fight valiantly to free him. According to Agro sources, they won this year’s E-plant, by freeing Annand in under 15 minutes.

ESS Pres. Heather Ross says the Hell-week events – including chariot races, E-plant, various marches around campus, and distribution of 2,500 Red Eyes – are all in fun and are governed by a policy on conduct during morale-boosting activities.
