New vice-presidents assume respective roles

Our new vice-presidents [see May 9, 1997, OCN] Drs. Michael Corcoran and Michael Atkinson, arrived here in August and began familiarizing themselves with their respective portfolios.

Professor Corcoran, most recently the associate dean of research at the University of Victoria, is a scholar in physiological psychology and neuropsychopharmacology, who has received 18 research grants this decade totalling about $600,000.

Professor Atkinson, most recently the associate vice-president (academic) at McMaster University, is a professor of political studies with expertise in political institutions and public policy.

Atkinson succeeds Professor Peter MacKinnon, who has returned to his deanship in Law after serving as acting v-p (academic).

Corcoran's position is newly created. Dr. Dennis Johnson, who retired from the University this summer, served as associate vice-president (research).

Meanwhile, Professor Tom Wishart, Psychology, has been appointed acting associate vice-president (academic), effective July 15, 1997, to December 31, 1997. See separate Around the Bowl item
