| The University’s annual day-long shearing of its flock of
280 sheep – held in the sheep barn April 8 – was a chance for third-year
Veterinary Medicine student Becky Ammeter, right, to try her novice hand at
clipping one of the unsuspecting creatures, under the watchful eye of veteran
sheep-shearer and Vet-Med classmate Emily Carrington. Four experienced shearers worked all day to clip the sheep bare –
getting more than 1,600 lbs. of fleece, which was to be marketed through the
Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board, just recovering costs of the necessary
