‘Just a little off the sides, please.’

The University’s annual day-long shearing of its flock of 280 sheep – held in the sheep barn April 8 – was a chance for third-year Veterinary Medicine student Becky Ammeter, right, to try her novice hand at clipping one of the unsuspecting creatures, under the watchful eye of veteran sheep-shearer and Vet-Med classmate Emily Carrington.  Four experienced shearers worked all day to clip the sheep bare – getting more than 1,600 lbs. of fleece, which was to be marketed through the Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board, just recovering costs of the necessary shearing operation.
