Dr. Paul S. Morley, Dept. of Environmental Health and Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Colorado State University, is a speaker for the WCVM Lecture Program DLT Smith Visiting Scientist program. He will present two seminars:

DISTINGUISHED RESEARCHER LECTURE

Wed., March 14, at 4:00 p.m., Rm. 134 Arts, Prof. Robert Kerrich, Dept. of Geological Sciences, will present a seminar entitled "Evolution of the ‘Blue Planet’: Supernova, Continent Growth, Biosphere-Tectosphere Interaction". Reception to follow.

One of Canada’s most distinguished geochemists, Prof. Kerrich has contributed significantly to our understanding of how the Earth’s crust evolved. His work also has applications for the mining industry and for tackling problems in the environmental, agricultural and health sciences.

In this lecture, he will trace the history of Planet Earth from the triggering of the solar system by a Supernova, to the dance of the continents, and the coupling between plate tectonics and the biosphere.

The Distinguished Researcher Award is presented semi-annually to a faculty member who has made a major contribution to knowledge or artistic creativity. The public lectures are sponsored by the Office of the Vice-President (Research) to honor recipients and provide a forum for their research and scholarship.

PESTICIDES, ENVIRONMENT & YOUR HEALTH LECTURE

Wed., Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Saskatoon Public Library Main Branch, 311 - 23rd St. East, Dr. James Gomes will give a talk entitled "Pesticides, Environment & Your Health". Dr. Gomes is a researcher in Occupational and Environmental Health. He works with the U of S Centre for Agricultural Medicine at Royal University Hospital. The talk is sponsored by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, the Saskatchewan Organic Directorate and Healthy Horizons Association. For info call 477-1351 or 665-1915.

MUNKACSI & SASKATCHEWAN NEUROSCIENCE NETWORK LECTURESHIP

– Public Lecture and Seminar –

Dr. Andres Lozano

Andres M. Lozano, MD, PhD, FRCS (C) is Professor of Surgery, University of Toronto; R.R.Tasker Chair in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and CIHR Clinical Scientist, University Health Network and University of Toronto; and Director of the Division of Applied and Experimental Therapeutics, Toronto Western Hospital Research Institute. He is internationally known as one of the world’s leaders in deep brain stimulation as treatment for Parkinson’s Disease, epilepsy and related movement disorders. He has many awards, among them the McKenzie Memorial Award, Penfield Award, Herbert Jasper Prize and the Medal Award in Surgery, RCPS(C). He has over 170 publications.
