‘GREEN CHEMISTRY’ WORKSHOP

Tues., Feb. 20, The Dept. of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering will host a one-day "Workshop on Green Chemistry" in the U of S Thorvaldson Bldg. This workshop is bringing the world’s experts to discuss how these revolutionary materials may be used by industries in Western Canada. ENDOCRINOLOGY UPDATE 2001

March 9 - 10, "Endocrinology Update 2001", jointly presented by Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development and The Canadian Diabetes Association - Saskatchewan Division, will be held at the Saskatoon Inn. The conference is directed to family physicians, internists, pharmacists, and diabetes educators. Other health professionals are welcome to attend. Guest speakers are Dr. Alun Edwards Assoc. Prof. of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, University of Calgary, and Medical Director of the Diabetes Education Centre, Calgary Regional Health Authority, and Dr. Jody Ginsberg, Prof. of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism, University of Alberta. ‘PD DAY’ FOR CLERICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF

The fifth annual Professional Development Day for Clerical and Administrative Staff will be held Feb. 20 at Marquis Hall. Speakers include: Hon. Dr. Lynda Haverstock, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan; Dr. Angie Wong, U of S Extension Division; Gary Gregor, Corporate Coach and Sports Psychologist; and Atina Ford, who played with the Olympic Gold Medal winning Sandra Schmirler curling team. U OF S OBSERVATORY VIEWING

The U of S on-campus observatory is open to the public 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Saturday evenings from October-February. The observatory is on campus one block north of Wiggins Ave. and College Dr. Admission is free. On clear evenings, visitors may look through the telescope to view the colorful Albireo double star, the Hercules globular star cluster, and other celestial objects. The observatory also has an Adopt-a-Star program that offers a unique gift for stargazers. For info. call the recorded Astronomy Information Line at 966-6429.

FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME CONFERENCE

"Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - A Practical Approach" will be held on Sat., March 3 at the Quality Hotel, downtown Saskatoon. Guest speaker is Dr. Christine Loock, Assoc. Prof., Dept. of Pediatrics, University of British Columbia. The conference is directed to family physicians, pediatricians, primary care nurses and psychologists. NICARAGUAN VISITORS TO ST. ANDREW’S COLLEGE

Tues., Feb. 27, 2:45 - 4:15 p.m., St. Andrew’s College, Rm. 329, four youth and two leaders from the Moravian Church, Nicaragua, will make a presentation and respond to questions about the political, social and economic concerns and the religious life of their community.

‘USTEP’ APPLICATION DEADLINE

Fri., Feb. 23, USTEP APPLICATION DEADLINE for University faculty and administrative staff. USTEP is the U of Summer Student Employment Program and is coordinated by the Student Employment & Career Centre. USTEP acquires and disburses subsidy funding to faculty and departments for the purposes of employing a student during the summer. USTEP receives funding from the Federal government (Summer Career Placements) and the University’s Board of Governors. Only University faculty and staff are eligible to apply.
