COMPUTING SERVICES TRAINING Computing Services offers a series of Information Technology hands-on workshops that are free to U of S faculty, staff, and students. WWW Development - Feb. 6 & 8, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Learn how to build and maintain pages on the World Wide Web. This workshop takes you step by step through how to build web pages at the U of S using nothing more than a web browser and a text editor. The course assumes you have no prior web development experience. Internet Tour - Feb. 13, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Learn what the Web has to offer. This workshop gives a quick introduction to the Netscape Communicator program. It then takes you on a tour of the U of S web site, and other web sites outside the University. Learn how to search for and find information you need on the Internet. Internet Tools for Windows - Feb. 14, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. This workshop explains how to connect your office or home MS-Windows computer to the Internet. It then shows how to set up and use common Internet tools like Telnet, FTP, Electronic Mail (using Netscape) and Newsgroups. SPSS for Windows - Feb. 26 & 28, 7:00 p.m.-10:00pm This workshop explains how to use the SPSS for Windows program. Learn how to use this statistical analysis tool to collect and analyze data for research projects, theses, etc. Introduction to Unix - Feb. 27, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. This course explains how to use the Unix operating system available on duke.usask.ca. It explains the basics of creating files, copying files, deleting files, organizing files into directories, and otherwise using the Unix operating system. HUMAN RESOURCES DIV. The following workshop is free of charge and open to all University employees. Dealing with Difficult People If you have already taken a workshop or have some background in conflict management, why not attend the workshop Dealing with Difficult People. Ruth Kinzel will lead participants in this one-day session that aims to develop your understanding of the range of human behaviour, show you how to recognize specific behaviours that characterize people who are difficult to deal with, and explore ways of working with people that encourage productive problem solving. How do you handle poor writing in your class? Each of you should bring an egregious example on an overhead and we will discuss it. Portfolios: Multi-Purpose Tools for Documenting Learning Facilitator: Angie Wong, Extension Division Date: Thurs., Feb. 15, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. A portfolio is an effective vehicle for documenting and presenting ones knowledge and skills, regardless of how the learning was achieved - formally or experientially. This workshop will introduce several applications, and invite the participants to explore how the portfolio can be applied for their own or others benefit. Special Evening Course . . .
