WEB USABILITY TESTING ON A SHOESTRING

Wed., Feb. 20,  11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, C210 Admin. Bldg.   Almost every department or research group has a website.  How well does it work?  How do you know?  Discover how different webmasters apply task-based usability testing on their website’s strengths and weaknesses.  Learn how to do usability tests and analyse the results so you can make your site easier to use.  Darlene Fichter is data services co-ordinator, U of S Library. 2001-02 SPINKS LECTURE

Depts. of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering host the 2001-02 J.W.T. Spinks Lecture Series, to be given by Dr. George M. Whitesides, Harvard University.  These annual lectures, established in 1975, recognize the many contributions Dr. Spinks made to his Departments, the University, and the chemical profession, nationally and internationally.  As faculty member, Department Head, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research, University President, and President Emeritus, Spinks was associated with the U of S from 1930-97.  The lecture series brings to the U of S eminent scientists and engineers in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering.  The lectures will be presented Mar. 7 and Mar. 8, in Rm 159 Thorvaldson at 3:45 p.m.  They are entitled:

  • General Lecture - Mar. 7, – “Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.” 
  • Specialist Lecture - Mar. 8,  – “Self-Assembly.”  A general look at self-assembly, using molecular self-assembly as a model for self-assembly of electronic and materials systems.

All are welcome.

ECONOMICS SEMINAR & LECTURE

  • Wed., Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m., Prof. Richard G. Harris, Dept. of Economics, Simon Fraser University, will present a seminar entitled “The New Economy and the Exchange Rate Regime” in the Timlin Rm, Arts 807.
  • Wed., Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. a public lecture by Prof. Richard G. Harris entitled “Globalization  and Canada’s Exchange Rate Options” will be held in St. Thomas More College Auditorium.  Reception to follow in the Father Swan Boardroom, 2nd Floor, STM Prof. Harris is the Telus Professor of Economics at Simon Fraser University; Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research; Senior Fellow of the C.D. Howe Institute, Former President of the Canadian Economics Association; Fellow of the Royal Economic Society of Canada; and Former Director of the John Deutsch Institute for the Study of Economic Policy at Queen’s University.  He is currently researching on the economic potential of a North America Monetary Union.

CDN FOUNDATION FOR TRAUMA RESEARCH & EDUCATION SEMINAR

“The Psychophysiology & Treatment of Pain Syndromes”  Feb. 15, 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. & Feb. 16, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Education Bldg., Rm. 1004.  This seminar will explore current trends in pain research and treatment modalities with an emphasis on the psychophysiological basis of pain syndromes. A new integrative treatment modality, Self Regulation Therapy®, that effectively addresses both the physical and psychological aspects of pain syndromes, will be introduced.
