  • Lillas Brown, Business & Leadership Program Co-ordinator in Extension Division was honored with the Saskatoon YWCA Women of Distinction Award for the "education/lifelong learning" category at the ceremony April 26. Brown has developed successful business development programs and is an authority in leadership development. She has collaborated on boards, associations and academic partnerships. Also nominated in the same category were Dr. Jennifer MacLennan, the D.K. Seaman Chair in Communications in the College of Engineering, and Diane Martz, Lecturer in Geography, Co-ordinator of the Land Use & Environmental Studies Program, and Director of the Centre for Rural Studies & Enrichment. Also nominated in the "sports & fitness" category was Trish Mitchell, Health & Fitness Co-ordinator in the College of Kinesiology.

  • Pauline Molder has been appointed Manager of Experiential Education in the College of Agriculture, a newly-created position responsible for administrating experiential education instruction, portfolio development, as well as managing work experience programs such as co-operative internships. Experiential education is a means of promoting learning through experience. Molder’s office will develop materials that allow students to improve and increase their employability skills and to develop career portfolios.


  • Deborah Houston was recently hired as an Assistant Operations Manager in Corporate Administration. She brings years of business and legal experience. She was co-owner of Cookies by George in Saskatoon, and had her own law practice in the city. She is currently assisting Operations Officer Justine Driedger with contracts and leases.


  • Evelyn Lambert has joined University of Saskatchewan Technologies Inc. (UST) for a term position as Operations Manager. She is responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of UST. She has worked on campus for approximately three years, in Alumni & Development, has operated her own business, and has worked for several federal Cabinet ministers.


  • Laurier Langlois has successfully completed the Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) Accreditation Program and has been granted the use of the C.P.P. designation by the Saskatchewan Institute of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada. This is the highest credential offered in purchasing, logistics and supply management. Strategic supply management has tremendous potential to improve organizations, improve profits, and enhance competitiveness.


  • Dr. Ron Sutherland, Head of the Chemistry Dept., has just returned from Budapest, Hungary, where he was an invited contributer at a NATO ASI meeting on biological weapons – on the "scientific and technological aspects of implementation of the Protocol to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention". Ambassador Toth of Hungary will commence the final series of meetings on this protocol in the near future.


  • The team of chefs from St. Thomas More College’s Choices on Campus restaurant did very well in the recent Sask Cuisine 2001 (cold) and Sask Cuisine 2001 Iron Chef (hot) competitions in Regina, based on international rules with two international judges on the panel. Derek Cotton and Jason Straker won a Silver Medal and the People’s Choice Award in the (hot) competition. Jason Straker also won a high-score Gold Medal, Luke Chaisson and Glen Cey each won a Gold Medal, and Derek Cotton won a Silver Medal in the (cold) competition.
