CANCER RESEARCH UNIT SEMINAR

Fri., Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m., in the conference Room (CM402), Saskatoon Cancer Centre, Dr. Deborah Anderson, of the Cancer Research Unit, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, will present a seminar entitled "SH2 Domains: New Tricks for an "Old" Do-g-ma-in".

VISITING ARTIST/SPEAKER

Nov. 23 the Dept. of Art & Art History presents another lecture in its 2000-01 Visiting Artist/Speaker Program. Renee Baert will deliver a lecture entitled "Curatorial Practices: Objects & Sites" in the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery, Rm. 191, Murray Bldg. She will also meet with graduate students during her Nov. 22-24 visit. Baert is a critic and independent curator whose writing on contemporary art has been widely published. She wrote the anthology "Teritories of Difference" and is developing an anthology on feminist critical writing in Canada. She has a PhD in Communications from McGill University and teaches in the MFA program at Concordia University.

  • Mon., Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. in Rm. B3 Health Science Bldg., Dr. Peter Hochachka, internationally known researcher, will give a public lecture entitled "Into Thin Air - Human Hypoxia Response Physiology." Dr. Hochachka is a world expert in human adaptation to altitude. All are welcome.

  • Wed., Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Rm. 2E25 Agriculture Bldg., Dr. Serhii Plokhy, Visiting Prof. of Ukrainian History, Assoc. Director of Peter Jacyk Centre for Ukrainian Historical Research, will give a public lecture entitled "Mythmaking and Mythbreaking: Mykhailo Hrushevsky and the History of Ukrainian Cossacs".   • Thurs., Nov. 23 at 1:00 p.m. in Rm. 299 Murray Bldg., Dr. Serhii Plokly, Visiting Prof. of Ukrainian History, Assoc. 2000 Mohyla Lecture

Fri., Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Shannon Library at St. Thomas More College, U of S, Dr. Dmytro Cipywnyk, Chair of the Saskatchewan-Ukraine Advisory Committee, Government of Saskatchewan, will present the 2000 Mohyla Lecture, hosted by the Prairie Centre for the Study of Ukrainian Heritage and St. Thomas More College. Cipywnyk will outline the events with transpired mainly between Saskatchewan and Ukraine that established strong relations between Canada and Ukraine.   • Mozart - A Humorous Man! presented by Barb Montalbetti
    Mon., Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m., J.S. Wood Branch Library, 1801 Lansdowne Ave. Barb Montalbetti will discuss Mozart and explore the human comedy that is represented in his music. Ms. Montalbetti is an opera director with the Saskatoon Opera Assn. She is a registered music teacher and sessional lecturer at Voice at the U of S.
  • Charles Ives presented by Dr. Monte Pishny Floyd
    Tues., Nov. 21, 2:00 p.m., Francis Morrison Branch Library Theatre Ives was a businessman by day and a composer by night. Dr. Floyd, whose own music has been performed throughout North America, Europe and Israel, talks about and gives examples of the music of this fascinating composer.

    Thurs., Nov. 23, 7:30 p.m. Rusty Macdonald Branch Library Duke Ellington is one of the great jazz composers and jazz musicians. Dean McNeill, Prof., Dept. of Music, specializes in jazz music, among other things.

POLITICAL STUDIES 990 SEMINAR

Fri., Nov. 17, 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. in the Ward Library, 907 Arts, Dr. Jocelyne Praud, Dept. of Political Science, University of Regina, will present a seminar entitled "The French Movement for Gender Parity in Public Life". Dr. Praud is an Assist. Prof. in the U of R Dept. of Political Science. She hold a Licence (Paris X), baccalaureate and master’s degrees (York) and completed her PhD at the U. of Toronto. Her main research interests include Canadian and Quebec politics, the role of women in politics, and West European politics. Her seminar talk draws from her latest research on the development and substance of gender parity policies in France.

COLLEGE OF LAW LECTURE

Mon., Nov. 20 at 12:30 p.m., Tom Molloy will deliver a lecture entitled "Dancing with Elephants - The Process and Structure of the Nisga’a Treaty Negotiations; A Federal Perspective", in the Moot Court Room, College of Law. Molloy recently concluded the final agreement negotiations with the Nisga’a Tribal Council and the province of British Columbia. Everyone is welcome.
