Deaths

  • Maureen Somers passed away suddenly Sept. 20.  She was on the faculty of the College of Commerce, as Manager of Effective Executive & Mangement Development Programs.  Born in Winnipeg, she attended school in Saskatoon and earned a BA and MBA from the U of S.  She had a tremendous zest for life and enjoyed travelling, hiking, running, quilting, volunteer work in the community, and teaching.  She is survived by husband Ron, son Jon and daughter-in-law Eileen, daughters Marnee and Meredith, mother Marion, and brother Bill.


  • Howard Adams passed away Sept. 8 in Vancouver.  He had been a Métis leader, writer and professor at the U of S from 1966-74.  Raised in St. Louis, Sask., he received his PhD at Berkley in 1965.  He worked at the U of S and was President of the Métis Society of Saskatchewan.  From 1974-89 he taught at the University of California at Davis.  He retired to Vancouver, but returned to teach at the U of S Dept. of Native Studies until the late 1990s.
