Huskies women’s hockey team hosts Celebrity Dinner

Sept. 8 the U of S Huskies women’s hockey team is sponsoring the first of what may become annual Celebrity Dinners designed to raise money for the team’s activities – including exhibition games and some tournaments.

Guest speaker at the dinner will be Joan McCusker, Olympic and three-time World Champion curler from the renowned Sandra Schmirler team. McCusker is a 1987 B.Ed. graduate of the U of S. Her speech theme is: "Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things".

The dinner will be held in the Commonwealth Ballroom of the Quality Hotel, 1st Ave. & 22nd St., Saskatoon. Cocktails are at 6:30 p.m., Dinner at 7:00 p.m., and the Program at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 each. For ticket information call the College of Kinesiology, 966-6500. Organizers hope 300-400 people will attend.

The women’s hockey program has operated for four years – three as a club team and one as an official CIAU team. While it has a complete, fully U of S funded 14-game schedule with the Canada West League of CIAU, the Huskies team wants to build its program – especially since the League is expected to grow in team numbers and number of games per year.

Huskies Women’s Hockey head coach is Donna Reaburn.
