| Again this summer the intrepid Campus Castaways tried their hand and arm, and shoulder at the annual Meewasin Dragon Boat Festival races July 8 and 9. This year the crew of U of S employees was sponsored by UST (U of S Technologies), and each paddler was outfitted with a UST t-shirt and cap. They looked sharp and paddled well, but a mix-up over their race schedule Saturday led them to be shorthanded and disqualified for one of their three heats. Undaunted, they raced well Sunday (above), and shot quickly under the Victoria Street bridge. The Castaways, led by team manager Melana Soroka and captain Kathy Gray, joined 74 other teams in this years meet, which raises money for Meewasin Valley Authority. Each 12-meter dragon boat holds up to 20 paddlers along with a steersperson in the back and a drummer in front.
