Seminar & Lectures
WHELEN LECTURE Dr. Mary Mahowald, an internationally renowned philosopher and writer on medical ethics and feminist issues, is this years Whelen Lecturer. She is a Prof. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the U. of Chicagos MacLean Centre for Clinical and Medical Ethics. Her latest book is "Genes, Women, Equality". Her four lectures are open to faculty, students and interested members of the public, free of charge.
MICROBIOLOGY & IMMUNOLOGY SEMINAR Sept. 21 at 4 p.m., in Rm. A-226 Health Sciences Bldg., Jude Uzonna, a post-doctoral student in the Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology will present a seminar entitled "Experimental Cutaneous Leishmaniasis: Induction, Maintenance and Modulation of Immune Response in Leishmania major-Infected Susceptible Mice.
HARRY TOOP MEMORIAL SCIENCE LECTURE As the 2000 Harry Toop Memorial Science Lecturer, Dr. Pranab Kumar Mukhopadhyay will deliver two lectures this month. Dr. Mukhopadhyay is a fellow of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He is currently a top consultant and has had a long career in the oil and engineering fields.

GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES SEMINAR Tues., Sept. 12 at 1:30 p.m. in Rm. 255 Geology Bldg., Dr. David Lumley, Pres. of 4th Wave Imaging, will give a seminar entitled "The Next Wave in Reservoir Monitoring: The Instrumented Oilfield". He is a Distinguished Lecturer of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Everyone is welcome. FRENCH CLASSES AT STM Professional French classes are now offered through St. Thomas More College and Language Training Canada. Originally designed for civil servants, this course will help you develop the skills you need to work in French in a professional setting. The "Programme de Base de Français au Travail" maintains federal standards for French in the workplace. Learn to speak on the phone, organise meetings, write business letters and more.
