Canine distemper vaccine recommended

A number of canine distemper cases in the Saskatoon area has officials at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) at the University of Saskatchewan reminding pet owners to vaccinate their dogs against the highly contagious disease.

There have been six confirmed cases of coyotes found either ill with or dead from distemper, and the local SPCA restricted its intake of dogs after a case was diagnosed in a puppy at its shelter. Vaccines, according to one wellness veterinarian, are almost 100 per cent effective against the disease.
