University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ offensive lineman Ben Heenan has been selected first overall in the 2012 Canadian Football League (CFL) draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Riders’ CEO Jim Hopson made the announcement at the annual Dogs’ Breakfast May 3.

University of Saskatchewan Huskie women’s basketball head coach Lisa Thomaidis will be taking her professional leave of absence during the 2012-13 season, and taking over the reins of the Canada West bronze medalist Huskies as the interim head coach will be Jillian Humbert.

Huskie Athletics expects a big turnout for its century celebration March 30-31. The weekend will feature a breakfast at the Education Gym and a village on campus for people to meet and greet athletes and coaches, including those from golf, boxing, gymnastics and swimming which were once in the University of Saskatchewan sports lineup. The annual Huskie awards gala will take place at TCU Place on the evening of March 31.

Long practises, intensive training and sweat-drenched uniforms are now an everyday occurrence for Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld. He was recently added to the roster after he had a successful training camp. Now, a dream of playing in the CFL has come true for Neufeld.
