University and Faculty Ratify Agreement

Saskatoon - The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) Board of Governors and the U of S Faculty Association (USFA) have ratified a one-year extension and amendments to the current collective agreement. The extension goes until June 30, 2014.

The tentative agreement was reached on Feb. 22, approved by the board on March 5 and by USFA members on March 6. The agreement includes a one-per-cent general market increase as well as a modification to the salary ceiling.
"This one-year agreement on monetary issues reflects a recognition from the bargaining tables of the importance of addressing the university's short-term budget challenges as well as longer-term sustainability," said Barb Daigle, associate vice-president of human resources. "Having this agreement in place during this time is also important in our ongoing efforts to recruit and retain outstanding faculty. "The university is committed to positive, open and productive problem solving both in and outside of collective bargaining processes. This agreement characterizes the ongoing commitment by both the university and USFA to positive labour relations on campus."
The parties will continue to meet to negotiate the full agreement.
The USFA represents about 1,100 full-time academic employees. The agreement is available online at http://www.usask.ca/hrd.
