University of Saskatchewan students explore One Health at workshop

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 14, 2013

The University of Saskatchewan invites media to attend the 2013 One Health Leadership Experience:
Saturday, August 17, 2013
Time: 8:15 am to 12:30 pm
Where: Marquis Hall
University of Saskatchewan
Address: 97 Campus Drive

More than 100 health science students and faculty will gather at the University of Saskatchewan for a three-day workshop that focuses on One Health. This global initiative encourages collaboration between all health disciplines to attain optimal health for all people, animals and the environment.
By working together, health professionals can develop better strategies to deal with immediate challenges such as infectious disease outbreaks, food- and water-borne illnesses and preventable medical errors. Research is also showing the measurable, positive effects of animals on the health of people who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other medical conditions.
Throughout the weekend, students from all of the university's health science colleges and schools will interact with One Health leaders from across North America.
Morning Speakers:
1. 8:15 am: Dr. Andrew Maccabe, executive director, Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC).
