Federal infrastructure funding opportunity positive for U of S

SASKATOON — Today's federal government announcement of a Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund by Science Minister Kirsty Duncan is welcome news for the University of Saskatchewan (U of S).

"Following last month's federal budget announcement, we've been watching closely for more details about infrastructure investments specific to post-secondary, so today's announcement was welcome news," said U of S President Peter Stoicheff. "I am excited about the possibilities this will potentially create for the U of S. Investments in infrastructure are much more than simply bricks and mortar. They're about providing the best environment for our researchers and students so they can succeed and give back to the broader community through discovery and knowledge creation."

The Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund is slated to invest $2 billion into improving research and innovation infrastructure at post-secondary institutions across Canada. Today's announcement is posted here.

"The creation of this fund is a critical part of helping the U of S maintain its position as one of Canada's leading academic and research universities," said Stoicheff. "This program will help us maintain, and enhance, that position."
