Face-lift for Campus Daycare playground

Photos by Susan Burton

June 21 was building-bee day at the Campus Daycare's playground, with parents pitching in to erect two new climbing structures and a new set of swings. The Daycare kids' families raised $5,000 and the University contributed $10,000 towards the updated facilities. Parents requested the support, arguing that the Daycare plays a a role in the recruitment of new faculty, staff and students. The new equipment was considered necessary when the Daycare's volunteer board and others decided the old outdoor equipment had become dangerously outdated.

The Campus Daycare was established in 1969. It pays $1 rent per year for its space in the Education Building, and the University pays for utilities. It is open to families of students and employees on campus, including Royal University Hospital and Innovation Place.
