Barnhart to retire in 2005
University Secretary Gordon Barnhart announced July 16 he will retire June 30, 2005 after five years’ service.
Barnhart, who has also taught and published in political studies and history in recent years, said he hopes to continue working for the University part-time while he researches and completes his latest book.
U of S President Peter MacKinnon praised Barnhart for being “a marvellous ambassador” for the University and said he was instrumental in centralizing and improving the Secretariat which supports U of S governing bodies.
Barnhart was Clerk of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly from 1969-89 and Clerk of the Canadian Senate and Parliament from 1989-94. He has also served as a senior international relations official for the U of S.
He recently wrote the first biography of Saskatchewan’s founding premier, Walter Scott.
